Story Development Midwife

Making art of any kind is an incredibly vulnerable act. During my time working as a responder in the writing center at Eastern Washington University, where I assisted students on a variety of writing styles, I was able to see how having someone in your corner can spark creative ideas and support a writer towards moving to their next level.  Since then, I have had the privilege of working with writers across many creative genres and in various stages, from conception to completion.

As a fellow writer, helping guide someone through their creative journey as a midwife is one of the most exciting things I get to do. I've learned to ask questions, to lead lightly, and to identify possibilities, empowering the writer to discover their own path and make changes that honor their vision.

Writers I recently worked with include Boni Alvarez, Jason Grasl, Idris Goodwin, and Karan Zacarias as well as the writers who share their thoughts below:

Testimonials

"In every capacity, Danielle delivers more than you expect. She loves artists, writers, research, change, creativity, and finding a way to YES. Because Danielle makes game-changing magic happen, I've been so blessed to collaborate with her."

Todd Salovey, writer/director

"In only one session, Danielle provided such thoughtful and specific notes about characters and scenes that I was able to substantially restructure my script. She guided me in a way that honored the heart of the story and the protagonist."

Amy Lam, playwright

"Danielle offers authentic development support, believing in the fruition of each piece from beginning to end. Her work shaped my play as I went deeper with each draft. I'm grateful for our work together and for finding an LGBT sibling who champions diverse voices."

Giovanni Ortega, playwright

"I have had the pleasure of working with Danielle for several years. She is inclusive, aware, bold, and forthright. She is also great at being warm and positive, especially with complex materials. I love working with her."
